More Than Replacement Doors: Creating New Access Solutions in Existing Buildings

New Emergency Exit door cut into storage area

When people think about door installation projects, they often picture the replacement of an existing door set or the specification of doors for a new-build development. While these form an important part of our work at TS Designs, there is plenty more we do.

We are frequently asked to solve more complex challenges, some where no door currently exists.

A recent project perfectly illustrates this capability. Our client required a new emergency escape route within an existing building to improve safety, compliance and operational resilience. The challenge was not simply supplying a door, it was creating a completely new emergency exit opening within the building structure and delivering a fully compliant solution from design through to installation.

Working closely with the client, our team assessed the building layout, escape requirements, structural considerations and operational needs before developing a bespoke solution. The project involved creating a new opening, designing an appropriate door system and installing a high-performance emergency exit door that integrated seamlessly with the existing building.

The result was a compliant, reliable emergency escape route that enhanced the safety of building occupants while meeting all relevant operational requirements.

Projects such as this demonstrate the breadth of expertise available from TS Designs. We understand that many buildings evolve over time. Changes in occupancy, regulations, security requirements, or operational processes can create the need for additional access points, emergency exits, or compartmentation solutions. In these situations, a simple replacement door is not enough.

Our team can manage the entire process, including:

  • Site surveys and feasibility assessments
  • Design and specification of the most appropriate door solution
  • Creation of new structural openings where required
  • Fire, security and emergency escape compliance considerations
  • Manufacture and installation
  • Project management from concept to completion

Whether replacing an ageing door set, supplying doors for a new development, or creating entirely new openings within existing buildings, TS Designs provides practical, durable solutions that meet the unique needs of each project.

The recent emergency exit installation is another example of how we help clients adapt and improve their facilities, delivering solutions with a limitless lifespan.

When specifying doors for demanding environments, the upfront cost is only part of the picture. The real question is what will that door cost you over its lifetime? Too often, lower-cost options such as timber or standard steel doors are selected based on initial price alone.
